KARACHI — The Premier Padel League (PPL) has officially closed a highly successful chapter in Sindh's capital, turning the Karachi Player Auction into a historic milestone for padel infrastructure in Pakistan. The event witnessed unprecedented financial backing and fierce franchise bidding, proving that the sport’s momentum is accelerating into a massive national movement.
LAHORE (Abdul Basit): Pakistan is preparing for a new chapter in its sports landscape with the launch of the Premier Padel League of Pakistan (PPLP) scheduled for January 5, 2026. With a prize fund of PKR 30 million (approximately $106,000), the league aims to revolutionize padel in the country and provide a clear career pathway for aspiring players.
The PPLP takes inspiration from the North American Pro Padel League and will feature tournaments across three key cities: Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi. The inaugural leg will commence in the Twin Cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, running from January to March. Lahore’s tournament will follow from April to June, with Karachi hosting the final leg between July and September.
The league will kick off with six franchise teams, Lions, Hawks, Sharks, Stallions, Bulls, and Markhor, competing in the Twin Cities event. These teams were sold for over PKR 2.5 million each in a recent franchise auction. Player auctions for these teams are scheduled for December 22, with squads made up of 8 to 12 players across three skill levels: elite, competitive, and developing.
Basim Ahmed, Chairman and CEO of PPLP, emphasized that the league’s goal is to nurture Pakistan’s growing passion for padel and establish a sustainable ecosystem. “Padel is a sport free from many traditional constraints, offering us a unique opportunity to build strong foundations from the outset,” Ahmed said. He outlined a five-year strategy to expand the league nationally and eventually regionally, targeting Asia and the Gulf states, with hopes of international leagues competing against each other.
The league also plans to collaborate with international bodies like the Asia Pacific Padel Tour, Pro Padel League, and the International Padel Federation to provide broader exposure and playing opportunities for Pakistani players. PPLP’s official streaming partner, myco, will broadcast the matches live.
Padel’s popularity in Pakistan is surging, with an estimated 50,000 amateur players and over 350 courts across the country.
